From Abraham Lincoln to Winston Churchill and Mahatma Gandhi, some of the world's most important historical figures have overcome their fear of speaking in public to achieve great success. Glossophobia, the fear of public speaking, is a common social phobia, with an estimated 75 percent of the population experiencing some form of anxiety before giving a speech. 2021/04 - Division Contest Winner!
This year, a Westmount Toastmaster had the honoured distinction of not one but two podium finishes at the Division Contest! Charles Albaut, the club's VP of Education, finished 1st in the International Speech (French) and 3rd in the Evaluation (French) Contests . This is a great achievement given the caliber of competition at this level. A hearty and well deserved congratulations to Charles!
2021/02 - Area Contest: Westmount Winners!
At this year's Area Contest, Westmount Toastmasters distinguished themselves with podium finishes! Inspiring and well-crafted speeches were the order of the night. Chapeau to the following Westmount members who made it to the podium!

This year Westmount Toastmasters has the honour of hosting the annual Area contest. This is a great opportunity for one and all to see some inspiring speeches. Please join us!
Holiday Bottle of Wine for the Members!
In a celebratory gesture to mark the Holiday season, bottles of "Chateau Westmount Toastmasters" were hand-delivered to the members of the club! On December 19th, President, Denis Chau; VP Ed, Charles Albaut and VP Membership, Maria Skitzis braved Montreal traffic and roads to deliver customized bottles of red wine to the unsuspecting members. As can be seen, bottles were received with surprise and much gratitude! Kudos to the above executive members who made it possible.
On Decenmber 8th, Westmount Toastmasters held its Club Contest online. Many thanks should be given to Joseph Sohmer who put in much of the legwork to organize the event!
Also, a big shout out to the many who served in the various roles to make the contest the success that it was. Thank you!

A member for 18 years, Hepta Deslandes has received many awards and achieved the honour of being a Distinguished Toastmaster.
Summer Get Together!
On July 25th, Westmount Toastmasters had its first get together since the start of Covid-19! With great weather the event was held in Westmount Park adjacent to Victoria Hall. The club took this opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those members whose work and speaking skills stood out over the course of the past year. Holding their certificates (from left to right), Denis Chau; Best Speaker, Charles Albaut; Best Table Topics Speaker, Joseph Sohmer; Best Table Topics Evaluator and Roberto Dawe; Toastmaster of the Year. Bravo Gents! A big shout out as well to our VP of Membership, Maria Skitzis for the work and effort put into organizing and cooking the delicious food for this event! Thank you Maria!

Kudos to Westmount Toastmaster members for podium finishes in recent District Contests! Joseph Sohmer, for example, placed 2nd in the District 53 (Division G) International Speech category. Gregory Fine placed 2nd in the District 61 Table Topics category. Given the standard at the District level and the number of contestants, this is quite an accomplishment. Excellent work!
New Members Inducted
On February 18th, Westmount Toastmasters welcomed 4 new members. Holding their certificates are (from left to right) Charles Albout, Margot Hovey, Denis Chau and Sofia Chatoupi. Bookending them on the left and right are Cheyanna Collins (VP Education) and Maria Skitzis (VP Membership) respectively.

On January 28th, Westmount Toastmasters welcomed 6 new members into the fold. They were (from left to right) Brigitte Premont, Rodrigo Mendivil , Konstantin Mirzaev, Salar Molaei, Stella Cardozo, Ahnaf Shahriar.
Holiday Dinner
Westmount Toastmasters held its annual Holiday Dinner on December 3rd with current and alumni members alike. The venue for the evening was La Classe restaurant on St. Catherine Street West. Our host for the evening was our club's illustrious President, Roberto Dawe. A toast was given by the personable Joseph Sohmer, raffles were held and a good time was had by all! Many thanks to the organizers, Olga Hanchuk, Suan Ong, Christopher Herten-Greaven and Maria Skitzis.
Club Contest

November 26th, 2019 saw Westmount Toastmasters hosting a Club contest for both International Speech and Table Topics. After some inspiring speeches, Joseph Sohmer and Roberto Dawe took away1st and 2nd places respectively in the International Speech portion of the contest.
